This is an opportunity not often found in local government and whoever becomes our next strategic director of social care and education will land a role that brings challenges and rewards in equal measure.
Working closely with the executive team and with huge support from dedicated and professional councillors who hold portfolios for both social care and education, you will develop and deliver a strategic vision, which overseas both Children’s and Adult social care and Education.
Following an inadequate Ofsted inspection in July 2017, we are making strides of progress, introducing a new way of working with families - based on Signs of Safety - which is helping to improve the quality of social work practice, and is beginning to have a positive impact on children and families, which was recognised by Ofsted in their latest visit.
Andy Keeling, Chief Operating Officer of the council is in no doubt about the scale of the challenge but believes we have put the building blocks in place to ensure that the next Strategic Director has all the support to transform our services for the better.
"The next Strategic Director will join a council that is confident and is making strides quickly and in the right direction. There are many complex and contributing factors and we are looking for a candidate who truly knows what outstanding services look like and has the plan to deliver them."
Sarah Russell, Deputy City Mayor, and Elly CutKelvin, Assistant City Mayor, understand that this is a unique role.
“We’ve brought the roles of Director of Children’s and Adult services together to make sure that we’re delivering whole life services to the residents of Leicester. We’re really proud of what we’ve got here. And it’s a really great place to work.”
The current post holder, Steven Forbes, has a clear understanding of the importance of this role.
“We’ve a responsibility for supporting some of the most vulnerable people in the community. It gives us an opportunity to improve education and learning of children, supporting some of the most vulnerable adults and elderly people, and to protect those at risk of harm.”
As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy balance between you work life and your personal life. You’ll enjoy generous annual leave entitlement, membership of the excellent Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working. We’ll also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities and career pathways.
In addition, you can choose from a number of flexible benefits, including our fantastic salary sacrifice car scheme, big discounts at high-street outlets, childcare vouchers, discounts on city buses and trains, we may also be able help with relocation expenses if you are moving to the City, or need help with commuting costs.
