About the job

The Place Marketing service has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Business Tourism Assistant to join our team and help shape a new business tourism service for Leicester & Leicestershire. Working collaboratively with our industry partners and alongside the Business Tourism Manager, you will help to realise the full economic potential of the business tourism sector.

Working as part of a wider team and assisting the work of the Business Tourism Manager, Strategic Tourism Manager and Place Marketing Team, you will play a key role in delivering proactive programmes of marketing and sales to bring conferences and business events to our area. As the key contact for the enquiry service, you will effectively liaise with our local suppliers and national and international buyers, ensuring incoming enquiries for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions are managed to win business.

Based at City Hall, you will be required to travel to, and work away from, various locations/venues to undertake site visits to hotels, venues and attractions.

Your role

As a Business Tourism Assistant, you will create an effective and dynamic business tourism community, helping to co-ordinate a range of activities to raise the profile of Leicester & Leicestershire as a location for business events both nationally, regionally and internationally. You will help and support the Business Tourism Manager with the project management of trade shows, sales missions, exhibitions and familiarisation visits for trade media and buyers to encourage conversion rates and showcase our business tourism offer. Undertaking a wide range of marketing activity to generate new business, including the development and maintenance of the business tourism website as an effective showcase for the local offer, you will also undertake a variety of administration tasks for the team as required.

What you will need

With experience of working in the tourism industry in a marketing, hotel, meeting venue or tourism environment, you will be familiar with the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry and be able to demonstrate both your knowledge and expertise in the sector. Using your excellent communication skills, you will be able to maintain high levels of customer service as well as build relationships with clients, funding partners and external customers. You will have good IT skills including the ability to prepare and update content for the website, e-newsletters and social media and be able to use a bespoke CRM system and database. With a pro-active approach to developing new business, you will have effective bid writing skills. Using your own initiative, you will be able to work under pressure and time constraints.
