Leicester Market is located within the heart of the city and has operated from its current site for over 700 years. The area is benefiting from a significant investment with the market undergoing a full redevelopment whilst still retaining its traditional market atmosphere.

The market service also delivers and facilitates speciality markets and events and also operates a market within the Beaumont Leys area of the City.

We are looking for Casual Workers to support the day to day operation of the Retail Market, Food Hall, Beaumont Leys Market and speciality markets and events.

Casual working hours vary; they may be during the day, evening, or at weekends. As the need for casual work is unpredictable Leicester City Council cannot guarantee that it will provide you with regular casual work.

£10.96 per hour

Your role


You'll need to open and close the Market at specified times and ensure the premises is kept safe and secure by carrying out regular customer contact patrols. You'll be allocating casual stalls and maximising income collection from market stall holders as well as collecting rents and other monies. This will involve collecting balance receipts and maintaining appropriate records.

What you need


With an understanding of how markets operate, you'll be used to working with the public and traders. You'll need the character to handle difficult situations effectively and show knowledge of general health and safety. You'll also need experience of maintaining records both manually and electronically. Cash handling experience is also a must.
