Job purpose

We are looking for someone to inspect and make safe, memorials within the City’s four cemeteries and ten closed church yards, which are maintained by Leicester City Council. This will be in accordance with the established management of the memorial guidelines.

You will use ICCM management memorials guidelines to identify safely hazards and the remedial works required.

You will

Record all survey audit work, categorising all Memorials into various levels of work needed to make safe, in accordance with the inspection procedure and current ICCM, legislation and NAMM or BRAM safe code of working Practice.

Undertake make-safe activities on finding a Memorial which has failed the inspection test, and making safe by 1) Stake the Memorial, 2) dig into the ground, or 3) lay flat. With a safety notice attached.

Deal sensitively with members of the public and others who may be experiencing personal stress and grief.

Undertake any other similar or equivalent duties with the post.

Requirements of post

Experience and basic understanding of a cemetery’s day to day activities.

Experience of and an ability to communicate with the general public and deal sensitively with those who may be experiencing personal stress and grief.

Experience of identify safety hazards and the remedial works required.

Experience in the ability to understand health and safety and the risks relating to day to day cemetery operations.

Knowledge of ICCM Management of Memorials guidelines, inspection procedures and current legislation. Knowledge of NAMM or BRAM safe code of working practice.

The salary for this post is £18,795 - £19,171 per annum.
