Job purpose

We are looking for customer-focussed and resilient Civil Enforcement Officers to patrol the streets of Leicester and issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCN’s) to any vehicle that is in contravention of a parking regulation, to optimise the performance of the road traffic network.

As a Civil Enforcement Officer, you will work across the City in all weathers, and if you enjoy being active then you will have the opportunity to walk numerous miles throughout the day. You will be required to wear a uniform and will be provided with hand held devices in order to carry out your role effectively.

Your role

With an understanding of legislation/regulations relating to the operation and enforcement of both on street and off-street parking enforcement, you will patrol prescribed routes to identify illegal parking and issue Penalty Charge Notices. Whilst patrolling, you will be required to check that the pay and display machines are functioning correctly, and that signs and lines are maintained to allow enforcement to take place. On occasions you may be required to drive a van or ride a scooter as well as assist with any vehicle that may need towing in line with the towing procedure. During match day parking, you will also patrol and check temporary restrictions are in place.

What you will need

With experience of working with the members of the public, you will be able to tactfully and diplomatically deal with irate or distressed customers. You will also have experience of working in an office environment with the ability to use telephone/radio systems in order to communicate with team members. With good literacy and numeracy skills you will be able to make accurate recordings of events, observations and conversations as well as have the ability to accurately record  and monitor time period using a 24hour clock. You will have experience of using information technology and possess basic IT skills.

This is a career graded post and we are looking to recruit to:

Level B: £19,554 - £21,166 per annum

Level C: £18,795 - £19,171 per annum

We are also looking to recruit to both day and night shift vacancies. You will need to provide cover where necessary from 6am until 1.45am the next day, in accordance with prescribed shift patterns.
