About the job

We have an exciting opportunity for two craft gardeners to join our Parks and Open Spaces Team to work towards further improvements in city of Leicester!

In this role you will be expected to carry out maintenance duties throughout Leicester and to undertake the highways spraying contract throughout the summer season. In the winter months you will work with the parks team carrying out standard gardener duties such as pruning shrubs etc.

You will be based at Abbey Grounds depot however you will be working from various locations within the city to cover the whole contract.

You will be part of a small team working under Local Area Manager and Team Leader within Parks Team.

Your role

In this role you will make Leicester’s green infrastructure free of barriers to access, by helping to maintain its horticultural features as well as hard landscape features including buildings.

As a confident gardener you will operate and maintain hand and mechanical specialist equipment as well as prepare and apply chemicals. As a good conversationalist you will provide advice and support to customers using our facilities.

What you will need

You will be required to demonstrate previous experience in either horticulture or groundsmanship as well as using specialist equipment.

To succeed in this role you are expected to have a knowledge of COSHH regulations and an appropriate certificate in application of pesticides and health & safety issues relating to area of work and HASWA.

You must be trained in Horticulture, Groundsmanship or/and Ecology.

You must be prepared to work in all weather conditions and as you will be required to drive a quad bike to carry out the spraying contract, therefore it is essential that you hold a current full drivers licence and the relevant pesticides certificates such as PA1, PA2 or PA6.
