About the job

Are you a highly motivated, customer focussed individual who would like to work in our busy Heritage Sites to support operations?


This is an exciting time to join the Museums and Galleries service as a new strategic vision is now in place and several significant capital projects are in the pipeline. Although Leicester is already full of world class art and culture, the city council is committed to growth and the vision is to create experiences that make Leicester truly special. Leicester museums draws broad range visitors from those seeking to discover stories presented within the displays and exhibitions, while some through attending weddings, conferences and events that include small intimate performances.


As a Customer Service Assistant, you’ll be part of the team delivering excellent front of house services, activities and operations including collections and exhibitions and retail operations.


Based at either the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery or the Abbey Pumping Station Museum, you may be required to work at one of our other sites across the City, according to the needs of the service. You must be willing to work to a rota and work flexible hours as required (daytime, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and occasionally throughout the night) in support of business priorities.


 

Your role

As a Customer Service Assistant, you’ll support with planning, organising and delivery of exhibitions and activities, retail services, collections management, learning and income generating activities. You’ll also undertake talks and presentations, prepare rooms and gallery spaces i.e. setting out furniture for functions and set up and oversee equipment in use. You’ll ensure the museum environment is both welcoming and engaging for visitors.


 

What you'll need

With previous experience of working with members of the public, you’ll also have experience of working in a busy customer reception, dealing with bookings, enquiries, complaints, etc. You’ll also have an understanding and commitment in delivering and upholding quality customer care standards as well as good communication and interpersonal skills, enough to deliver occasional guided tours and presentations talks to varying audiences. With the ability to lift, carry furniture and equipment, you’ll also be willing to undertake remedial cleaning as and when required.

Additional information

The full-time salary for this post is £19,312 - £19,698 per annum which will be pro-rata for part-time hours.


2 x 33 hours per week at Abbey Pumping Station


1 x 35 hours per week at Leicester Museum and Art Gallery (previously known as New Walk Museum)


1 x 20 hours per week at Leicester Museum and Art Gallery
