Working for leicester city council

Leicester. It’s a place, a city, but there’s also something much more here. We’re a family and a community. When we work together to design and build here, we deliver more than projects or programmes - we’re providing a valuable platform to connect people to the deep history and rich culture within Leicester.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the Entrepreneurial Councils Project Team as we go through an exciting period of change. Join us, and you’ll help to drive a coordinated approach to entrepreneurial activity so the financial and social benefits possible through this approach can be maximised.

We are looking for a professional, who can champion entrepreneurial thinking, behaviour and skills across our diverse authority. Who will build a positive relationship with the council’s partners, outside bodies, customers and stakeholders. Enabling us to take Leicester City forward together.

Your role

You’ll be establishing and maintaining a business case/gateway process for commercial and entrepreneurial activity taking place within the Council. This will involve developing a comprehensive picture on a corporate basis of all current ‘traded’ activity and all Council owned traded companies. You’ll enable and empower the organisation to take business like decisions where appropriate, to manage entrepreneurial risks, and to identify and seize entrepreneurial opportunities.

As a confident project officer you’ll need to challenge, equip and support key services and teams within the Council so that they are able to adopt more business-like approaches to entrepreneurial activity and decision making, as well as providing advice, training, tools and methods to enable the organisation to strengthen its entrepreneurial understanding and competency. You’ll oversee a coordinated, skilled and targeted approach to the effective marketing of our entrepreneurial activity and service offers as they are developed. This will involve applying project management disciplines whilst keeping an up to date project log of all commercial and entrepreneurial activity taking place within the Council. You’ll facilitate regular reporting on project progress to the relevant board, as well as logging ideas that will document and assess all new entrepreneurial or commercial opportunities to be considered further.

What you need

You’ll need to be a proven Project Officer with experience of working within a Project Management setting. You’ll be used to working with a wide range of people at a variety of levels, including senior management and businesses, as well as taking part in consultation and stakeholder events. You’ll have experience of using and developing spreadsheets, presentations, web and database applications for your own and manager’s use. You’ll also have experience of communicating business cases, improvement ideas or management information in presentations, proposals and reports. With an understanding of the principles of commercialisation, entrepreneurialism, income generation, social value and return on social investment within a local authority, public or private sector environment.
