An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the management team of Leicester City Council’s legal services. We are looking for a confident self-motivated individual to provide commercially focused legal advice, manage and lead the Commercial Team and act as lead lawyer on a range of high profile and challenging matters. You will work in a supportive environment with responsibility for a well-established team, in addition to having your own varied caseload of commercial, contract and general local government law matters.
Provide and secure high-quality legal services for the Council and other agreed public bodies in the areas of Commercial and Contract Law (including Public Procurement).
Undertake the direct line management of the Commercial Legal Team (lawyers and support staff) in order to achieve the highest professional standards and in accordance with City Council policies and procedures.
Support the Head of Law to ensure the provision of quality, client focussed and cost-effective legal services.
Deputise and cover for the relevant Head of Law as and when required.
Manage external relationships in order to facilitate the provision of high-quality legal services.
Represent the Division on regular basis at corporate meetings reporting back to higher management and carrying through assigned tasks.
Requirements of the post
Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with a minimum of 5 years PQE in the area of Commercial and Contract law
Recent experience of managing or supervising and supporting a team
Experience of acting as the lead lawyer in commercial and contract law matters
Experience of Local Government legal work in the public or private sector
Knowledge of commercial and contract (including public procurement) law, practice and procedure at an advanced level
Knowledge of the requirements of Local Government law, and the advising upon the associated restrictions and considerations

Salary: £46,752 - £50,233 per annum
