About the role

Leicester City is at the forefront of developing proactive approaches to heritage management in England. Having delivered one of the most successful Townscape Heritage Initiatives in the region, the city council has secured Historic England funding to deliver a High Streets Heritage Action Zone in the city centre. This is an exciting opportunity to shape Leicester’s future and to deliver building improvements, an historic building grant funding programme, public realm works, community engagement and a range of other heritage regeneration initiatives. Leicester’s economy is showing strong growth and the development of new approaches to heritage regeneration is central to the continued success of the city.

We are looking for a highly organised and experienced Heritage Action Zone Project Manager to work within the conservation team in the council’s planning service. Leading a small team of specialists in building conservation, archaeology, landscape architecture and ecology, you will provide advice and guidance on all aspects of the historic and natural environment and be pro-active in protecting and enhancing the city’s historic assets and heritage led regeneration. You will have the opportunity to further develop your interdisciplinary skills and experience within this role.

Based at City Hall, you will also spend time working in the High Streets Heritage Action Zone area of the city centre. You will liaise with all the key stakeholders, property owners, developers, agents and local residents on a daily basis and attend a range of board and community-based meetings to deliver the programme.

Your role

As a Project Manager you will co-ordinate and manage the delivery of the High Streets Heritage Action Zone (HAZ) programme on time, on budget and within the operating requirements of the Council and the funding bodies. Working closely with partners and other stakeholders, you will ensure that the aims and the objectives of the project are realised and you will use innovative methods and best practice to promote and publicise the project. Using your in-depth knowledge and good conservation practice, you will design and manage the grant application process and work with property owners, to deliver building projects that result in the repair, restoration and re-use of properties in the High Streets HAZ area.

What you will need

With an established track record in securing funding bids and managing and delivering regeneration schemes in the historic environment, you will have experience in managing and delivering community engagement projects. You will also have experience of interpreting technical drawings, plans, reports and specifications. Using your excellent communication skills, you will be able to present management information through reports, proposals and presentations as well as effectively liaise with key stakeholders and customers.
