About the job

Led by the Director of Public Health, the Public Health team’s purpose is to promote and protect the health and wellbeing of the population of Leicester. We are a highly effective, dynamic and friendly team.


We are seeking an experienced commissioner of healthcare services to join our public health commissioning team. Working with lead commissioners, the procurement team and our quality and performance team you will be responsible for commissioning public health services to meet the health and wellbeing needs of the local population.


Based at City Hall you will be required to attend various meeting across the city and on occasions will be required to work on weekends/evening work.

Your role

As a Commissioning Manager you will manage and oversee the implementation of key public health commissioning programmes across the division, to achieve positive health outcomes for service users. Based on an understanding of local health and wellbeing need you will support the development of commissioning priorities and plans for public health services in Leicester. With excellent verbal and written communication skills, you will deliver effective consultation mechanisms with key stakeholders to inform on the development and delivery of commissioning plans. Using your previous experience in multi-agency working, you will build strong relationships and effectively work with providers such as the NHS, voluntary sector agencies and communities to align the market with the aspirations of service users as well as work with contract and procurement staff to support the delivery of services.

What you'll need

With experience of strategic planning and commissioning of health, public health or preventative services, you will also have experience of working with NHS providers including primary care. With a degree or a professional management/commissioning qualification, you will have good knowledge of public health services as well as a good understanding of national/local health care and Public Health agenda. With proven ability in the successful management and delivery of complex commissioning projects, you will have strong organisational skills.
