Are you dedicated to spending around forty minutes of your time twice a day to help make the routes to and from school safer for children?
Join us, and you can be involved in this rewarding job to ensure the welfare of children, parents and members of the public when crossing the road at our designated points.
You’ll be provided with uniform and equipment for the safety of yourself, children and all other members of the public, especially when stopping the traffic on the highway.
You’ll maintain control over children and members of the public who are awaiting instruction to cross roads and instructing children when to cross. You’ll be provided with all relevant equipment in order to signal traffic to stop, without detriment to the welfare of drivers, and to allow children and other members of the public to safely cross the road to or from a nominated school at a designated point during designated hours. You’ll report any problems or incidents to the Head Teacher of the nominated school, and the School Crossing Patrol Team Leader. This will include carrying out Health and Safety Procedures of the Council as necessary, including the reporting of accidents.
You’ll have a friendly attitude with good verbal communication skills to communicate with people at all levels. You’ll be punctual, reliable and assertive with good road sense and significant knowledge of the Highway Code.
You’ll have a clear understanding of how distance and speed of vehicles change with road conditions and prevailing weather. You’ll be committed to wearing a full uniform when on duty and able to work outdoors in all weather types.
A Fitness Screening and DBS check will be required if successful.
