About the job


We are looking for Approved Mental Health Professionals to join our Emergency Duty Team. We wish to recruit people who can bring a clear social care perspective and strong social work values to these challenging posts. The Emergency Duty Team works closely with colleagues from across Health and the police services and successful applicants will be office based, with colleagues from Adult Social Care or partner agencies.

The Emergency Duty Team provides an out of hours service to Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, undertaking assessments under the Mental Health Act, and ensuring that vulnerable adults at risk of neglect or abuse are safe. It is managed by Leicester City and is part of our wider AMHP Service, with whom EDT colleagues meet regularly for reflection and support opportunities.

Available Positions

EDT Team:

2 Full Time posts (we are happy to consider applicants wishing to work part time hours too)


You will

  • Undertake assessments under the Mental Health Act, ensuring that people are supported in the least restrictive way and their legal rights are adhered to.


  • Safeguard vulnerable adults across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, making them safe until the next working day.


  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Departmental policies and procedures as well as relevant legislation and research relating to the specialist area


  • Maintain up-to-date records consistent with agreed social work recording practice in the Divisions, including the maintenance of computerised systems

Requirements of the post

Registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC)

Social Work BA or MA, CQSW, CSS, Dip.SW

Qualified Approved Mental Health Professional

The ability to deal with highly sensitive and, possibly, distressing information in a manner which allows for positive risk management but adheres to confidentiality policies

Ability to identify and manage risk, including positive risk taking. Ability to understand issues involved in the assessment and management of risk

Additional information


Salary: £38,183 - £43,800 per annum (pro rata for part time hours). 

Time and a third is paid for weekend shifts and those that include working from midnight to 8.30am
