About the job

Live Well Leicester is an integrated healthy lifestyle service which supports the residents of Leicester city to improve their health and wellbeing by offering support with smoking cessation, increasing physical activity, managing alcohol levels , healthy eating and weight management. We have a fantastic opportunity for a compassionate yet enthusiastic Stop Smoking Advisor to join our Live Well Leicester team to support the residents of Leicester to stop smoking.

Working closely with officers within the Live Well team and the wider Public Health team, as well as other internal and external service, you will motivate people to change and to stop smoking.

You must be able to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends by agreement to provide sessions to suit service users and willing & able to work occasionally outside normal office hours.

Your role

As a Stop Smoking Advisor, you will manage your casework of clients and monitor their progress as well as making onward referrals to where appropriate to support clients to further enhance their health and wellbeing. By implementing motivational techniques and providing clients with tools, you will aim to help them with stopping the habit and provide clinical advice. As a confident IT user, you will maintain accurate records on the client record management systems.

What you'll need

With previous experience of supporting individuals to change their behaviour and helping them to facilitate these changes, you will have an understanding of the national and local agenda in relation to smoking cessation and tobacco and the impact of smoking on an individual’s health. Using your excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills you will have the ability to listen actively and provide clear explanations and clinical advice to clients and other professionals as well as ability to engage, influence and persuade others. You will have NCSCT (National Centre for Smoking Cessation & Training - Knowledge and Skills) programme completed OR a willingness to complete this within 1 month of commencement in the post.
