Your role

We currently have four vacancies for Supervising Social Workers, within the Leicester City Fostering Service. Three in the Kinship Assessment Team and one in the Recruitment & Assessment Team.

• Three temporary fixed term contracts for 2 years in the Kinship Assessment Team, 37 hours per week, to be reviewed with a possibility of extension at the end of the period.
• One temporary fixed term contract, maternity cover, up to the end of September 2020, in the Recruitment & Assessment Team, 37 hours per week.

The role requires excellent analytical skills to complete thorough assessments of potential ‘connected person’ carers for specific children who are looked after and potential foster carers. The reports often have to be completed within short timescales to meet court and fostering panel deadlines. The information and analysis provided must be of high quality, enabling the court to make safe care planning decisions and the Leicester City Fostering Panel to judge the applicants’ caring capacity in line with the National Minimum Standards for fostering services.

In some circumstances the post-holder may also be required to complete Special Guardianship Order reports for the court, and to provide supervision and support to foster carers in line with regulatory requirements and National Minimum Standards.

Please note that applicants must have achieved Level 3 Social Worker status.

What you will need

You will need significant experience and skills in direct work with looked after children, young people and their carers. Along with knowledge of the impact of trauma and poor early childhood attachment, and experience of supporting others to meet a child’s consequent developmental, social and emotional needs.

You will need knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, standards, and of social work methodologies and their application in practice.
