City Services
In City Services, we have a number of teams that focus on improving neighbourhoods, housing, the environment and the quality of life for everyone in Leicester. We cover everything from waste disposal to libraries, licensing to parks and cemeteries, trading standards to CCTV and community safety. All to make the city a welcoming and enjoyable place to live in, work in and visit. Join us and you’ll enjoy the opportunity to see the impact you’re making every day.
Whether you’re increasing recycling levels, working with local police, health and fire services to improve safety, or cleaning up one of our open spaces, you’ll be helping to improve lives. And there are lots of new innovations you could be involved in, working with people across the council and in external agencies to make Leicester a clean, safe, well looked after and welcoming city.

Community Safety
Join this team and you’ll be involved in a range of vital work to keep vulnerable people and all Leicester’s communities safe, reassured and protected. Whether you’re helping to safeguard children in care, or promoting the Prevent agenda, you’ll enjoy the chance to work closely with external agencies, such as the police, health and fire authorities and help people feel secure.
Housing
Join our Housing team and you’ll be helping to make sure that everyone in Leicester has access to a safe, well-maintained home. It’s not just about putting a roof over people’s heads. From giving support and legal advice to homeless people, to managing whole housing estates, it’s about helping to create healthy, secure homes that improve people’s lives.
Neighbourhood Services
Join this team and you’ll be helping to ensure that neighbourhoods across Leicester have access to the services they need. From libraries to community centres, we provide local services that enhance and enrich people’s lives. As we look at new ways to deliver these services, you could be involved in our plans to redefine libraries as community hubs, where people can find a range of useful services.
Parks and Open Spaces
Our parks and open spaces team covers everything from parks, woodlands and trees to street cleaning and looking after the city’s cemeteries and crematorium. Join us and you’ll help to keep Leicester’s green spaces well-maintained, so local communities can enjoy the benefits of a welcoming outdoor environment.
Regulatory Services
We’re the team that ensures standards are maintained across all businesses and private housing in Leicester. This covers everything from trading standards and environmental health to licensing pubs and clubs, pest and dog control and building regulations. Join us and you could be involved in a range of initiatives, such as our recent drive to improve hygiene standards in local food outlets.
Waste Collection and Disposal
As well as managing the contract to collect and dispose of residential waste across the city, we also run two recycling centres - one specifically for household waste and the other that accepts trade waste - and a garden waste collection service. Join us and you’ll enjoy the chance to make a real difference to people’s lives by helping to keep our environment well-maintained.
Focus on … Civil Enforcement Officers
As one of our Civil Enforcement Officers, you’ll be out and about, dealing with the people of Leicester and helping to keep the city’s main routes clear. As well as giving advice and making sure vehicles are parked legally, you’ll also help to keep the streets free of litter and dog mess. So, you’ll need to be able to deal with people calmly and efficiently. You’ll also need a good eye for detail to make sure all relevant pay and display machines are working and road markings are clear.

I’ve always worked in the arts and customer services and joining the council has been tremendous. I love helping visitors engage with our sites and collections, and being a welcoming face for visitors. The salary and benefits are great and the people are even better. It’s been a real joy to develop and grow with my colleagues and I love learning about Leicester's history and heritage. I’ve had lots of opportunities for training and the chance to develop my skills is a constant process.

I’ve worked for the council since 1991 and in my current role I work with partners such as the police to address crime and anti-social behaviour issues in Leicester. I enjoy the positive, fast-paced work culture. My job continues to bring new challenges and that makes me want to stay and perform the best job possible.

My team manages and coordinates a large percentage of Leicester’s cultural activity. We have regular events and one-offs such as royal visits, which can happen at any time. This changing workload is my highlight. You can be programming a stage one day and working on a procurement plan for the ice rink the next - no two days are the same.
