Our sports and leisure teams

Leisure Centre

Working at one of Active Leicester’s seven leisure centres, you’ll be on the front-line, providing quality, accessible health, and fitness facilities to the community. Whether it’s swimming pools, studios, sports halls, or gyms, you’ll be the backbone of our efforts to keep Leicester active. Our centres receive over 200,000 visitors each year, and that includes many of the varied Active Leicester projects, clubs, and events we host throughout the city to get residents involved with sport and physical activity.

Business Support

In Sports and Leisure, our drive to improve the health and fitness of residents relies on the dedicated teams who handle the important behind-the-scenes organisation. As part of our Business Support team, you’ll provide the vital back-office assistance that helps us to run our Active Leicester services effectively and efficiently. From ICT to general administration, to marketing and promotion, your support will ensure our services reach further, and help more people along their fitness journey.

Sport and Active Recreation

The Sport and Active Recreation team lead our strategic approach to physical activity in the city. Join us and you’ll work with communities across Leicester, developing opportunities to improve health and fitness – from growing our Learn to Swim school, to securing provision for sports on our outdoor pitches. Your initiatives will fuel the success of the Active Leicester strategy and help expand our health and fitness base across the city.

Meet some of the team

Vicky, Service Manager – Sport and Active Recreation

Thanks to the investment and support of the council, I’ve truly fulfilled my potential and made a difference to Leicester. Starting out as a volunteer, I gradually worked my way up over the last 18 years to Service Manager – Sport and Active Recreation, being involved in all kinds of exciting projects, from local community events to the Paralympic Games and Rugby World Cup.

Stacey, Health and Fitness Manager

Leicester City Council gave me the opportunity to take the next step in my career and further improve my community. I’ve been involved in refurbishing five gyms, helping to increase health and fitness membership by over 200%. The work-life balance is also fantastic – I can work a full-time job that I love, while also being a mum to a six-year-old.

Dhairya, Swim Teacher

Before I started my job, the council sponsored a course for me to gain the skills I needed. Since then, I’ve inspired and motivated many young swimmers, helping them to have fun while also developing an essential life skill. I work with some amazing people and enjoy giving back to the local community. It’s a fantastic working environment, where I feel valued.

Molly, Swim Teacher

I’ve made so many new friends – it’s one big team, always supporting one another. There are always ongoing development opportunities, such as online training and CPD courses. The council also financially supported me through my swim teacher qualifications and allowed me the flexibility to continue studying once I started out. The support helps me feel so much more confident in my role.
